The Wave Pictures Bring ‘Gained / Lost’ to Parish’s 20th Birthday

Huddersfield gets a proper anniversary booking this Friday as The Wave Pictures arrive at Parish with Turner, a current album to play with and nearly three decades of fiercely independent guitar music behind them.
The show on Friday 23 October 2026 is billed by the venue as The Wave Pictures + Turner — 20 Years of Parish. Doors are listed for 7.30pm, with the event running to 10.30pm.
A birthday booking with some bite
An anniversary programme can easily become an exercise in looking backwards. This one does not. The Wave Pictures are touring with Gained / Lost, released by Bella Union on 27 February, so Friday has a live, current reason to matter as well as the venue milestone.
The trio remain David Tattersall on guitar and lead vocals, Franic Rozycki on bass and Jonny Helm on drums. Bella Union’s album page describes the record as a meeting point for 1960s garage rock, 1970s classic rock and 1990s American indie, held together by the DIY spirit that has guided the band for close to three decades.
That is a neat fit for Parish: a long-running Huddersfield room marking its own history by booking a band that still treats playing together as the main event. Monkey has already looked at another of Parish’s 20th-anniversary bookings; Friday adds a cult British guitar band with a catalogue deep enough to reward the faithful and a new record strong enough to avoid becoming a museum piece.
Recorded live, built for a stage
The label says Gained / Lost was recorded with Jim Riley at Ranscombe Studios over seven days, capturing the band live and unfiltered. That detail matters. The Wave Pictures have never needed acres of production to make the point: Tattersall’s elastic guitar lines, Rozycki’s bass and Helm’s drums do the heavy lifting in the room.
The album’s 11 tracks include “Alice”, “Sure & Steady”, “Sparklers”, “The Past Comes Back To Haunt Me” and the closing “Worry Anymore”. There is no published Parish setlist — and no honest reason to invent one — but the band’s official gig page confirms the Huddersfield date in its current run.
Support comes from Turner. The official Parish event gives the bill its anniversary wording; beyond that, the sensible advice is simple: arrive for the whole night rather than treating the support slot as optional scenery.
