Pink Floyd, Lasers and a Mighty Pipe Organ: Huddersfield Town Hall Gets a Rock Makeover
If you thought Huddersfield Town Hall's Father Willis organ was built only for the classical repertoire, Saturday night is about to challenge that idea rather spectacularly.
Everything Under The Sun arrive in Huddersfield on Saturday 26 September with a seven-piece live celebration of Pink Floyd, performing Wish You Were Here and The Dark Side of the Moon in full, alongside further Floyd classics — with the Town Hall's mighty pipe organ actually becoming part of the band.
Pink Floyd — but not as a conventional tribute show
This is the bit that makes the gig stand out in a crowded Huddersfield weekend. Everything Under The Sun describe the project not as a tribute band, but as a meeting of rock-band power and the grandeur of historic pipe organs. The music is accompanied by synchronised lasers and video, turning the architecture and instrument of the venue into part of the performance.
The collective began in 2023 around a 50th-anniversary performance of The Dark Side of the Moon at St Mary's Church in Warwick. Since then the project has travelled through remarkable spaces including Coventry Cathedral, Hull Minster, Llandaff Cathedral, Leicester Cathedral, Bradford Cathedral, Blackburn Cathedral, Tewkesbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Abbey.
Huddersfield opens the final autumn run
Huddersfield is the first stop on a five-show autumn run that brings this chapter of the project towards its conclusion. For local audiences, there is another reason this one matters: Huddersfield Town Hall's famous Father Willis organ is not scenery. It is central to the sound.
Huddersfield Town Hall organist David Pipe has already been involved in genre-crossing projects at the venue, including Organic Doom and last December's Organic Metal concert with Plague of Angels. Saturday pushes that idea into one of rock music's most recognisable catalogues.
Two landmark albums, one very Huddersfield setting
The programme brings together two records that scarcely need an introduction: Wish You Were Here and The Dark Side of the Moon. Both are being played in full during a two-hour show, with additional Pink Floyd material around them.
For Monkey readers, that combination is exactly why this is more than another tribute night. It is familiar music being rebuilt around an instrument and a building that belong unmistakably to Huddersfield — the sort of one-off live experience that simply cannot be recreated in a standard venue.
A seriously busy Saturday for local live music
It is also part of a packed Saturday across the area. Definitely Oasis are at The Parish, Ultimate Coldplay are at The Picturedrome in Holmfirth, Don't Stop Queen Now are at Lawrence Batley Theatre, and Roger Davies & His Band play Smile Bar and Venue. The Pink Floyd show nevertheless earns today's Monkey spotlight because its use of the Town Hall organ makes the Huddersfield performance genuinely distinctive.
The gig details
Everything Under The Sun: Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here & The Dark Side of the Moon — Saturday 26 September 2026, Huddersfield Town Hall, Ramsden Street, Huddersfield. The performance begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are advertised at £25 and £30 through Huddersfield Town Hall.
However you spend the weekend, get out and support live music. Huddersfield has an unusually strong choice of stages this Saturday — and this one comes with several thousand pipes thrown in for good measure.
