Huddersfield’s Live Music Weekend: What’s On from Friday to Sunday
Huddersfield and the wider local patch have a busy few days of live music ahead, with established touring names, local album launches and regular grassroots venues all doing their bit. Here’s a cleaner guide to what’s happening from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September — including the Monkey GigsList Supporters we can currently verify have live music on.
Friday 11 September
Billy Bibby plays The Parish in Huddersfield from 8pm. The former founding lead guitarist of Catfish and the Bottlemen has been touring his own material for years, and the Huddersfield date is confirmed for Friday night.
Over at Amped, Bratakus are listed for Friday evening, while Altered Images are at the Picturedome in Holmfirth. Three very different options within a short drive of one another — which is exactly what a healthy local live-music scene should look like.
Saturday 12 September
Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage are at The Parish on Saturday, with doors advertised from 7.30pm. Lewis has built a devoted following around his mix of indie rock, folk, art and densely written songs, and his own tour schedule confirms the Huddersfield stop.
Amped also has a particularly local reason to head out: Bone Wars are launching their debut album with a 7.30pm show. The Yorkshire psych-rock outfit features Huddersfield songwriter Leo Brazil and promises the sort of big, strange, noisy night that independent venues are made for.
Monkey GigsList Supporter Spotlight
Meltham Liberal Club is one of the venues that directly supports Monkey GigsList, and its current venue information confirms live music every Saturday night. That means the Lib is firmly on this weekend’s radar too. We’ll only name the act when we have the current performer confirmed rather than recycle an old listing.
The Vulcan is another Monkey GigsList Supporter worth flagging. Its current venue information, updated at the end of August, lists live bands every Sunday evening. Again, we’d rather tell you the venue is live than guess at an artist name we cannot verify.
A little further afield
If you fancy travelling a little further, Saturday also brings Miniseries to The Grayston Unity in Halifax and Chimehours to The Puzzle in Sowerby Bridge. Both are part of a wider West Yorkshire weekend that stretches well beyond Huddersfield town centre.
Support your local — and the venues that support Monkey
The point of Monkey GigsList has always been simple: make it easier to find live music and give the venues and performers keeping the scene alive a bit more noise. Our Supporter venues put their money where their mouth is by helping keep the GigsList running, so when they have live music on, we’ll make a point of telling you.
Check the main GigsList before setting off for the latest times and additions — and if you can, get out, buy a drink, buy some merch and keep being vocal to support your local.
