From Nashville to Huddersfield: Bluegrass Star Kristy Cox Lands at Parish Tonight
Huddersfield gets a proper international roots-music visitor tonight as Australian bluegrass star Kristy Cox brings her seated show to Parish — part of a UK run for an artist whose latest album went straight to the top of the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
Australia to Huddersfield — via Nashville
Kristy Cox has built her career by joining the dots between Australian country music and the American bluegrass heartland. Now based in Nashville and signed to Billy Blue Records, she has become one of Australia's most decorated bluegrass exports, earning seven Golden Guitar Awards and repeated international recognition.
Her latest album, Let It Burn, pushed that story another step forward. Released in 2024, it debuted at number one on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart, mixing hard-driving bluegrass with gospel influences and the sort of big, expressive vocal that has become Cox's calling card.

A Tuesday night worth making some noise about
The Huddersfield date lands at Parish on Tuesday 15 September. Doors are at 7.30pm, the show is seated, advance tickets are listed at £17.50 and the event is 14+, with under-18s accompanied by a parent or guardian.
And this isn't an isolated fly-in date. Cox is in the middle of a UK run: she played Filey on Sunday and heads on to Newcastle, Cardiff, Rhayader and London later this week. That makes Huddersfield one of a relatively small number of British stops on the tour — and exactly the sort of midweek booking that reminds you how good the town can be when promoters take a chance on something beyond the obvious Friday-and-Saturday-night circuit.
Why Monkey likes this one
Bluegrass might not be the first genre everybody associates with Huddersfield, but that's rather the point. A healthy local live-music scene isn't ten versions of the same gig. It's punk one night, indie the next, a covers band in a pub, an organ recital at the Town Hall — and an award-winning Australian bluegrass singer dropping into Parish on a Tuesday.
If you've ever claimed there's nothing happening in Huddersfield during the week, tonight would be a particularly awkward night to make the argument.
