Bluesbury’s Sunday Blues Train Rolls Into Dewsbury: A Free Finale for Kirklees Music Fans
If you fancy ending the weekend with a proper blast of live blues, Dewsbury is the place to be today. Bluesbury Festival 3 reaches its finale on Sunday 13 September with the Sunday Blues Train at Platform 3, West Riding Beerhouse – and entry is free.

The Sunday Blues Train rolls in
Today’s programme runs from 2pm until 8pm and brings together The Milk Men, the Huddersfield Blues Club All Stars and acoustic blues performer John Carroll. It is the closing chapter of a three-day festival that has once again turned a railway-station platform into one of Kirklees’ more unusual live-music stages.
The Milk Men arrive with a strong UK blues reputation and eleven UK Blues Award nominations behind them. The Huddersfield Blues Club All Stars keep the local connection front and centre, with a line-up featuring James O’Hara, Pat Fulgoni, Alex Eden, Marc Layton Bennett, James Dash and saxophonist Rod Mason.
A festival with Huddersfield roots
Bluesbury may take place in Dewsbury, but its Huddersfield DNA is impossible to miss. The festival is organised by singer Pat Fulgoni in association with Huddersfield Blues Club, and this third edition follows two successful previous years at the West Riding.
The 2026 weekend opened on Friday with Mississippi MacDonald, The Whisky Flowers and Canadian guitarist Gary Cain. Saturday then put the Swan Song Project in the spotlight, with Burning Rope, Franny Eubank & His Blues Band, John Montana Trio, Ben Buddy Slack and the Ugly Mug Jug Band among the performers.
Grassroots music in exactly the right setting
There is something wonderfully fitting about a free blues festival happening on Platform 3 at Dewsbury Railway Station. It is informal, accessible and built around musicians, a local venue and a crowd that simply wants to hear live music – exactly the sort of grassroots scene Monkey GigsList exists to champion.
With the final notes due around 8pm, there is still time to catch the last day. Bluesbury Festival 3 is at West Riding Beerhouse, Dewsbury Railway Station, on Sunday 13 September 2026. The Sunday Blues Train runs from 2pm to 8pm and admission is free.
Monkey says: keep local music alive
Events like Bluesbury do more than fill a Sunday afternoon. They give working musicians a stage, give audiences a reason to discover artists they might never otherwise hear, and keep live music visible across Kirklees. If you are heading over, support the venue, enjoy the bands and make some noise for the people keeping the local scene moving.
