Levellers’ ‘Levelling the Land’ Turns 35 — and Holmfirth Gets Two Sold-Out Nights

Holmfirth Picturedrome is about to host two nights that are equal parts gig, anniversary party and loud reminder that some records refuse to retire.
Levellers arrive on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October with their Levelling the Land 35 tour. Both shows are sold out. Essex punk duo The Meffs open each night, giving this run rather more bite than a simple nostalgia lap.
For a West Yorkshire venue to land two consecutive dates on a UK and European anniversary tour — and sell both of them — is a proper Holme Valley result.
Two nights, no spare tickets
The band’s own live page and the Picturedrome both mark the Holmfirth dates as sold out. Tuesday’s venue schedule lists doors at 7.30pm, The Meffs at 8pm and Levellers at 9pm; stage times can change, so this is not the night for an ambitious last-minute dash over the hills.
The venue is also unusually blunt about returns: do not contact the box office asking for sold-out tickets. If any come back, they will be placed on sale again through the official Picturedrome event page or announced by the venue.
The age restriction is 14+, with under-18s accompanied by an adult. Anyone already holding a ticket should check the venue page before travelling.
Why Levelling the Land still fills rooms
Released in 1991, Levelling the Land was Levellers’ second album and became the record that fixed their folk-punk sound in the national memory. One Way, 15 Years and Far From Home were the singles, while The Game, Liberty Song, Riverflow, Boatman and Battle of the Beanfield helped turn it into a front-to-back fan favourite.
The anniversary is not just a number on a poster. A newly remixed edition, rebuilt by Al Scott from the original multi-tracks, was released on Friday 16 October as a single LP and an expanded three-CD set. The band’s official anniversary update says the tour mixes songs from the album with other classics from the wider catalogue.
That matters. This is a celebration of a landmark record rather than an excuse to put the entire live show behind glass. Levellers have always made most sense when the room is moving, and the Picturedrome’s compact, standing-floor atmosphere should suit these songs down to the ground.
The Meffs make it a current double bill
The Meffs are not decorative support. The Essex duo are on every date of the tour, and their own site is currently leading with new album Business. Two people, plenty of volume, no obvious interest in standing politely at the side of the stage.
Putting a younger punk band in front of Levellers is smart programming: the connection is energy and attitude, not a tribute-act version of 1991. Get in for 8pm if you have a ticket. Missing the support would mean missing half the point.
Practical details
Levellers — Levelling the Land 35, with The Meffs, plays Holmfirth Picturedrome on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October 2026. Both dates are sold out. The official Tuesday listing gives 7.30pm doors, The Meffs at 8pm and Levellers at 9pm, with all times subject to change.
MONKEY SUPPORTER NOTE: MELTHAM LIBERAL CLUB
A few miles up the valley, Meltham Liberal Club remains one of Monkey’s paying Supporter venues. The club’s own site confirms live music every Saturday night and a Sunday band once a month.
Its current public page does not name this week’s act, so we are not going to invent one to fill a box. Check the official Meltham Libs page or contact the club before travelling — and if there is a band on, turning up is the best support you can give.
