Guaranteed Xmas No.1 - Team Sheeran & John!

It's that time of the year when we turn our attention to what could be this year's Festive No.1... Well this year, there can be no doubt unless Elvis and Crosby return from the grave and bring Bowie along with them as they croon around Bing's piano...Ed Sheeran has just announced that he will be collaborating with his showbiz buddy, Elton John on a track this December.

Speaking live on Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2, Ed revealed that he and Elton will be releasing a song for the festive season in December 2021.

Talking about his future plans, Ed narrowly avoided the profanity buzzer by exclaiming that it's "f---ing great!" - We're so glad we caught it on Dutch radio as that would certainly have lost it's emphasis on UK radio interviews!

And it's clearly something that's been in the pipeline all year as Ed said that Elton called him on Christmas Day last year and asked him if he would be up for it - I mean if you got a call from Elton whilst you're preparing your turkey and trimmings, you'd be all caught up in the festive emotion and agreed to anything wouldn't you!

He said: "He rung me on Christmas Day and he said, '"Step Into Christmas" is No. 6 on the charts, and I'm 74, and I'm still having f—ing chart hits, this is great! I want to do another Christmas song, will you do it with me?'"

Apparently Ed said he was a bit sceptical at first as he "never really wanted to do a Christmas song" but the death of a close friend changed his perspective on things and the idea grew legs...

"It really just hit home how stuff can just change overnight," he said.

"I was like, 'Why the f--k am I not doing a Christmas song with Elton John? I might not be here tomorrow, this will be a f---ing great way to celebrate Christmas.'"

And just like that, the new found 'King of the Fu' word (as it appears in this interview) looks set to add a Festive No.1 to his list of honours... Not bad for a ginger kid from Halifax!
